If DC current flows in a conductor the distribution of a dc current is almost uniform but in case of AC the distribution is not uniform As AC varies due to which magnetic field produce which will act as a opposition to the current and prevent current to flow in core , so as a result high current will be flowing on the conductor surface region .Current density will be increased at the external layers of a conductor this phenomena is known as skin effect
- skin effect decrease with decrease in frequency
- it increase the effective resistance of a line as a result line losses increases
- permeability increase so skin effect will be also increased
HOW TO PREVENT KIN EFFECT
Skin effect can be minimize in the stranded conductors this is one key reason why stranded conductors are in use in the power system
